Boarding

Looking for a calm, safe, and specialized place to board your cat?

Cat Care Durango provides boarding services exclusively for cats— making us Durango’s only feline-specific boarding facility!

At Cat Care Durango, we provide boarding exclusively for cats — creating a peaceful environment without barking dogs or busy kennel noise. Our space is thoughtfully designed with feline comfort in mind, offering cozy condos, sunny windows, enrichment, and plenty of attentive care.

We now offer two dedicated boarding rooms, with a total of eight private condos, allowing us to maintain a quiet, intimate setting for every guest. Because of our limited space, reservations fill quickly — especially during holiday seasons — so we recommend booking in advance to ensure availability.

What Makes Our Boarding Unique?

  • A calm, cat-only environment tailored to feline behavior

  • Experienced caregivers who understand cats and their individual needs

  • A smaller, intimate setting — never overcrowded

  • All boarding proceeds directly support our nonprofit rescue

When your cat stays with us, they’re not just boarding — they’re supporting other cats in need.

We welcome you to visit our facility and see what makes us the purr-fect choice for your kitty. Please call ahead to schedule a tour so we can dedicate time to showing you around.

If you have any questions, please email us at catcaredurango@gmail.com or call (970) 946-0768.

**Please note that all boarders must be fully up-to-date on their vaccinations**
Proof of vaccination is required before your cat can be admitted to our facility.

Boarding Prices

$25 per day for boarding one cat, and $20 per day for any additional cats, ONLY if the cats will be staying in the same condo. If they need separate condos, each cat will be $25 per day.

Daycare (no overnight stay) is $20 per cat.

Medication & Safety Policy

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all cats in our care, Cat Care Durango follows Colorado PACFA regulations regarding medication administration.

  • We may only administer medications that are provided by the owner and prescribed by a licensed veterinarian.

  • All prescription medications must be in their original container with the cat’s name and dosing instructions clearly labeled.

  • Written instructions must be provided at check-in.

Tranquilizers, sedatives, calming pharmaceuticals, or behavior-modifying medications will only be administered if prescribed by your cat’s veterinarian and provided with written veterinary direction.

We do not keep prescription medications or calming drugs on hand for boarders.

If your cat requires medication during their stay, administration is available for an additional $5 per cat, per day.

Boarding Eligibility & Safety Considerations

For the safety of our staff, volunteers, and the cats in our care, Cat Care Durango reserves the right to decline boarding for any cat whose medical or behavioral needs exceed what we can safely provide.

Cats who are highly fearful, aggressive, or require intensive medical care may not be the right fit for our facility. In these cases, we may recommend alternative options better suited to their individual needs.

TNR

What is TNR?

TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is the process of humanely trapping feral cats in their colonies, spaying or neutering them, vaccinating, and returning them to their original location. During this process, cats are also ear-tipped—a painless procedure that provides a visible marker indicating the animal has already been altered. TNR helps control feral cat populations and reduces behaviors like fighting and roaming.

If I don’t want the cat back, can you relocate it?

Unfortunately, there are far more feral cats than resources to care for them. At this time, feral cats must be returned to their home colonies after being altered and vaccinated.

What can I do about feral cats harassing my pets or using my garden as a litter box?

The best solution is to get them spayed or neutered! Altering cats reduces fighting, roaming, and other unwanted behaviors. To keep cats out of your yard, visit www.cat-repellant.info for humane solutions to deter feral cats from your property.

Should I trap feral cats?

No, do not attempt to trap feral cats without a clear plan in place. Otherwise you or the cat may end up with undue stress or even injury. Contact Cat Care Durango before trapping any cats. Our team can provide advice and, depending on available funding, may be able to assist with the process.

Surrender

Owner Surrender

At Cat Care Durango, we understand that life can present unexpected challenges that make it difficult to continue caring for your cat. We know that surrendering a pet is never an easy decision, and we approach every request with compassion and care.

Cat Care Durango is a limited-admission rescue facility with space for approximately 50 cats. Because of this, we are unable to accept every cat brought to us for surrender. Difficult decisions must sometimes be made to ensure we can continue providing quality care for the cats already in our program and those most in need.

Before submitting a surrender request, we kindly ask that you first explore all possible alternatives. This may include:

  • Reaching out to friends or family

  • Contacting your veterinarian for rehoming leads

  • Posting through trusted social media networks

  • Searching for pet-friendly housing options

  • Seeking financial assistance or hardship support resources

Many housing situations can be resolved with pet deposits, references, or assistance from local support networks. We strongly encourage exhausting these options prior to surrendering your cat to a shelter or rescue.

If, after exploring these options, surrender is still necessary, please complete our surrender information form for consideration. This form allows us to evaluate your cat’s needs and determine whether we have the appropriate space and resources available. Please answer all questions honestly so we can ensure the best possible outcome for your cat.

If a surrender application is approved, a $150 surrender fee per cat will apply. This fee helps offset the cost of housing, feeding, and providing medical care until a new home is found.

Please understand:

  • Completing the surrender form does not guarantee acceptance into our facility.

  • Once a cat is surrendered to Cat Care Durango, the surrender is permanent. We are unable to accommodate temporary placements or return a cat after surrender paperwork has been completed.

  • For found strays, please contact your nearest municipal shelter, as this gives the cat the best chance of being reunited with their owner.

Our mission is to serve both cats and our community responsibly and sustainably. Thank you for understanding the policies that allow us to continue this work.

Public Surrender (Found/Stray Cats)

At Cat Care Durango, we understand that finding a stray cat can be both rewarding and overwhelming. While we truly want to help as many cats as possible, we are a limited-admission rescue facility with space for approximately 50 cats. Because of this, we are unable to accept every stray brought to us.

Before requesting intake, we strongly encourage you to take the following steps to help reunite the cat with their family:

  • Have the cat scanned for a microchip at a local veterinary clinic

  • File a found report with your nearest municipal shelter

  • Check lost pet listings and community boards

  • Post clear photos in local lost-and-found pet groups and neighborhood forums

Many lost cats are located just a short distance from home, and these steps greatly increase the chances of reunification.

Please note: Cat Care Durango is not a municipal shelter. Municipal shelters are legally designated to hold stray animals and provide the official holding period required for potential owner reclamation. Contacting them first gives the cat the best chance of finding their way home.

If, after these steps, the cat has not been reclaimed and you are seeking rescue placement, you must complete our Public Surrender Form before bringing the cat to our facility. This allows us to assess the cat’s needs, evaluate available space, and determine whether we have the appropriate resources to help.

While we do not require a surrender fee for found or stray cats, we greatly appreciate a donation to help offset the cost of a wellness exam, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and any medical care the cat may need while in our care.

Completing the form does not guarantee intake

All admissions are by approval and scheduled appointment only

Thank you for taking the time to advocate for a found cat and for understanding the limitations that allow us to continue serving our community responsibly.
