Meet the Team

  • Padgie Kimmick

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Cats have been my passion for over 25 years. After retiring from nursing, I sought a way to help the overwhelming cat overpopulation in the Four Corners area. Seeing countless cats euthanized, shot, or suffering, I founded my own TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) program—starting with just five traps and a pickup truck. Through dedication and word of mouth, I’ve helped fix over 42,000 cats, saving lives and reducing suffering.

To further this mission, I founded Cat Care Durango—a rescue and sanctuary, in 2023, where cats receive medical care, love, and the chance for a better life. Though I moved to Minnesota in 2024 after meeting my husband, my heart remains with Cat Care Durango. This work is my life’s purpose, and I’m grateful to continue making a difference.  I am blessed.

  • Shiann Swapp

    DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Shiann Swapp, Director of Operations at Cat Care, is a lifelong Colorado resident passionate about animal welfare. With years of experience in veterinary assisting and martial arts instruction, Shiann brings a unique blend of skills to her role. When she's not caring for cats, she enjoys outdoor adventures with her family and furry companions.

  • Bailey Wilson

    CAT CARE TECHNICIAN MANAGER

Born and raised in beautiful Durango, after graduating from Durango High School, she moved to Denver to study photography at The Art Institute of Colorado, honing her creative skills. Her love for animals and art came together when she became part of Cat Care Durango, where she helps make a difference in feline lives. When she’s not caring for cats at Cat Care, you’ll find her behind the camera, practicing Jiu Jitsu, hiking the stunning mountain trails, or creating art in a variety of mediums. And if there’s a tuxedo cat around, you can bet she’ll be smitten.

  • Stephen Downey

    CAT CARE TECHNICIAN

Stephen, originally from Houston, TX, has always had a deep connection with cats. Growing up surrounded by them, he was thrilled to land a job at a veterinary clinic that also offered boarding services. During his time there, his passion for animal care grew, and he gained valuable insight into how animals behave in stressful situations. After a few years, he transitioned to a cat-only sanctuary and boarding facility that also provided grooming services. Now at Cat Care Durango, Stephen is applying the skills he's developed over the years while continuing to expand his knowledge. He's also currently learning more about cat grooming to provide even better care for the cats in our care and the local community.

  • Sue Mills

Susan is a Cat Care technician at Cat Care Durango.  Originally from South Florida, she moved to Durango in 1999 where she started working at the La Plata County Humane Society.  She raised her two kids here and started working at Care Care in 2023.  She has always been an animal lover and has been fostering puppies and kittens since 1999.  She enjoys the beautiful Colorado lakes and mountain trails with her dog, Ellen.

  • Brigid Hammel

CAT CARE TECHNICIAN | VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Brigid is a Cat Care Technician and Volunteer Coordinator at Cat Care Durango. Raised in Durango, she’s always had a passion for cats and was thrilled when she could finally adopt two of her own, Lilith and Xe (both from Cat Care)! She enjoys indoor activities including various forms of art and crafting, writing, watching horror movies and baking sweet (cat themed) treats.

  • Linda Wilkinson

Linda grew up in Durango and has spent many years hiking and camping in the mountains and deserts of Colorado and Utah. After raising two wonderful children and retiring from a rewarding teaching career, she spends most of her downtime cooking with her family, quilting and reading. • Liza Nero

    TREASURER

Liza’s love of animals and fascination with cats in particular began at an early age.

Her lifelong commitment to cats ranges from trapping feral cats to having pet psychic readings done on her own.

She found Cat Care Durango quite serendipitously and immediately knew she wanted to be an advocate for its mission. She began volunteering and later joined the board of directors as treasurer in 2024.

Liza lives in Durango with her husband and (currently…) three cats, Phoebe, Artie and Birdie.
